Leak Checks

Having a good leak check on file for a customer is one the most important parts of a propane safety documentation plan. For that reason all of your leak check issues show up at the top of your dashboard. This week’s Tip of the Week will focus on this important component of the dashboard—we’ll look at what flags an account to make it appear on your dashboard, as well as the steps you can take to clear that account from the dashboard.
Clicking on the number at the bottom of your Leak Check Issues header will direct you to a drill down that contains additional account details. The drill down will contain details such as: specific issue with the leak check, system type, account details and the date the last inspection took place.
Accounts will be flagged for a Leak Check Issue for the following reasons:

  1. Hold Time – there is important data missing from the hold time fields

    • The hold time is insufficient (hold time may vary by company and is customized for your company in the backend of P3, but typically a hold time of 3 minutes is required, as stated in NFPA 54 Annex C)
    • The start time, end time or time held is missing
  2. Incomplete or Not Completed

    • Incomplete – there is an important piece of information missing (for example, there is a start pressure, but no end pressure)
    • Not Completed – there was no data recorded under the leak check
  3. Pressure Change – there was either a loss in pressure or a gain in pressure in the leak check that was recorded

Once a technician or driver has gone back out to the home to conduct and record a good leak check, there are three ways that you are able to clear that flagged account from your dashboard.

  1. Enter Leak and System Check (use this option if the only data recorded at the time of the visit was the Leak Check)
  2. Enter a revised Safety Inspection
  3. Enter an Interruption of Service

If you missed last week’s overview of the dashboard, you can find that here.
