Entering a Container with an Unknown Serial Number

The serial number is a necessary piece of information to have for each container that is entered into P3. There are times when that information may not be available, particularly when dealing with underground tanks and, from time to time, with customer-owned containers. When completing data entry into P3, if there is not a serial number available for a container, you will be asked to generate a serial number for that container.

If your company does not already have a method in place for developing a tracking number to take the place of the missing serial number, the above format is suggested.

Begin with the account number and follow it with an identifier. (1) indicates there is one container present at the location and 2, 3, 4, etc. as needed.

If the serial number becomes available at a later date, you will be able to edit the serial number to provide the most up-to-date information.
